About Girl Hike

Girl Hike was founded by feminist strategist and coach Alaina Crystal, who was guiding a hike on the Bedruthan Steps in 2023 when the phrase "Girl Hike" appeared in her mind.

Alaina, like many women+, has an old story about herself that she isn't "outdoorsy," and she often saw hiking as something that wasn't positioned towards her. It can feel inaccessible or scary to do alone. She started Girl Hike as a way to rewrite this story for herself, and for the hundreds of women+ who have joined her on the trail since.

 Our Values

  • Girl Hike welcomes anyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary person.

We are committed to creating more opportunities for our community to get outdoors together, in ways that feel safe and accessible for all.

We are committed to creating joyful experiences that can be enjoyed by an intersectional community of women+ and non-binary folks, and we ask all Girl Hikers to adhere to our code of conduct.

  • At any Girl Hike event, we request that you:

    1. Treat other Girl Hikers with respect; we may have our differences, but we hold space for them equally

    2. Maintain confidentiality about whatever is shared during a hike

    3. Ask opening questions before sharing advice, and be actively listening more than speaking

    4. Be respectful of one another’s boundaries when forming new friendships

    5. Ensure no Girl Hiker is left behind

  • Girl Hike does not tolerate transphobia, racism, homophobia, ableism, ageism or any other use of language or conduct that could make another Girl Hiker feel excluded.

Any such conduct will not be tolerated and could result in your removal from a Girl Hike.

FAQs

Hikes, Tickets & Refunds

  • We are able to offer refunds due to extenuating circumstances up to 72 hours before a hike; after that point, all sales are final. This includes if you miss the hike on the day.

For refunds before 72 hours, please email us at bookings@girlhike.world. Please note that we are a small but mighty team, and we will aim to process your refund as soon as possible.

If you would like to donate your place to a Girl Hiker who otherwise might not be able to attend, we welcome that! Please email us and we will put the offer out to our community.

  • We’re unable to accommodate ticket transfers to other individuals after purchase, for both safety and administrative reasons. For the well-being of our community, we need to maintain accurate attendee records, and that requires all participants to complete their own event registration. Additionally, because many of our events have active waitlists, transferring tickets privately would prevent us from offering those spots fairly to the next person in line. We’re happy to issue refunds up to 72 hours before the event, at which point tickets are released to those on the waitlist.

  • We hike rain or shine, so please do prepare with sturdy boots, layers, and waterproofs if necessary. However, if the Met Office issues a weather warning, we will notify you of any changes in plan; please keep an eye on your email and on social media. If the hike is cancelled due to a weather warning, a refund will be issued.

  • Given that we have Girl Hikers coming from across the region, travel is not included in the ticket price. We encourage using public transit where possible from an environmental POV, and we recommend you purchase train tickets early to access the best rates. If you’re interested in coordinating travel with other Girl Hikers, via train or carpool, feel free to use the dedicated hike WhatsApp group, which should be linked in your booking confirmation email.

  • It happens! If you miss the start of the hike, you are welcome to try to navigate your way (safely!) to our midway stopping point and meet us there. Please contact Alaina or Claire, whose mobile numbers are in the pre-hike email. However, if you miss the start of the hike and are unable to rejoin us, we won’t be able to offer a refund.

  • Each hike’s terrain varies, and we always include details about the specific hike in the booking information. If you are concerned about the hike’s difficulty levels, please email us at info@girlhike.world and we can discuss your concerns. Please note that we are a small but mighty team, and we will aim to get back to you as soon as possible.

  • While we love your kids and teens, our hikes are 18+.

We are planning to launch an arm of Girl Hike for teen girls in the future, so do let us know if you’d be interested in hearing more about that!

  • While we love your dog, in order to maintain everyone’s safety and comfort on the trail, our hikes are dog-free.

If your dog is a registered Emotional Support Animal with an accompanying letter from a mental health professional, please email us at info@girlhike.world and we can chat further.

About Girl Hike

  • Girl Hike welcomes anyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary person. We do not tolerate transphobia, racism, homophobia, ableism, ageism or any other use of language or conduct that could make another Girl Hiker feel excluded. Any such conduct will not be tolerated and could result in your removal from a Girl Hike.

  • Girl Hike is a CIC (community interest company), which means we are a social enterprise that reinvests all of its profits back into the company. Creating and organising hike experiences takes time and effort, from researching hike locations to processing tickets and refunds, and we charge a nominal fee to cover costs for our time, and for any partners that we might be working with. Every pound that comes into Girl Hike helps create more joyful hiking experiences for more women+.

If you would like to come on a Girl Hike but find the ticket price is prohibitive, please email info@girlhike.world and we can find a solution.
